One curious thing I have noted is that not only were my clients and I getting spam in Korean or Chinese (as well as in English) from those countries, but we were also getting Korean and Chinese language spam (mostly Korean) originating from those countries but relayed through US and European mail servers.

I certainly empathize with people in countries whose first language is not English when the simple majority of all spam in the world is in English and sent by shady low lifes operating in the US. One has to wonder what would make a Korean or Chinese spamhaus send spam in their language all around the world? It's not as if there's a lot of Korean-speaking people outside Korea.

Obviously, it was not enough to block email transactions from Korean andchina to prevent their spam spews from reaching my clients and I. I also needed to block email written in Chinese and Korean character sets. If you are using a mail server capable of filtering email based on header content, blocking emails with any of the below header strings should prevent Chinese or Korean language emails from being delivered to your server:

(you may need to enter both upper and lower case versions of the chars after the "=")

Content-type: text/html; charset=big5*
Content-type: text/html; charset="ks*
Content-type: text/html; charset="euc-kr*
Content-type: text/html; charset="gb2312*
Content-type: text/html; charset=EUC-TW*
Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-2022-kr*
Content-type: text/html; charset=KS_C_5601-1987*
